Felix Hernandez Finalizes Contract

King Felix and Seattle finally settled on the 7 year $175 million. The holdup was a possible future problem with his elbow. It seems like Felix didn't have to give up anything, so Seattle must feel pretty good about the elbow.

Hernandez is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. There is a concern as his velocity has dropped every year. I saw a stat on twitter that says he was averaging 96 MPH when he starting and now it's something like 92.6 MPH. Now that could be that he is a smart pitcher and hows how to not strain himself, or it could have something to do with that elbow. Obviously this is a concern if it keeps dropping and you have him for 7 years. My thinking is that he will be OK. Pedro was kind of like that, but still had the stuff when he needed it, and learned how to pitch even when his arm was beginning to go.

With all the young talent Seattle has coming over over the next 2-3 year, they could eventually look like a team very similar to Tampa Bay.

Felix Hernandez Deal Held Up Do To Elbow

As the Seattle Mariners have been in discussions with Felix Hernandez about a record-setting extension, concern has developed over the condition of his pitching elbow, a source says.

The team and its franchise player had talked about a framework of a deal that would pay $175 million over the next seven seasons.ESPN

Man, these physicals are potentially costing a ton of people a ton of money. At first it sounded like this elbow thing wasn't a big deal and more like CC Sabathia's shoulder thing, but it may seem a little bit more seious than that. I would hate this because I love Felix and he is my favorite pitcher in the MLB. I don't know what exactly they found in his elbow, but teams should be as cautious as possible if they are about to dole out 175 million dollars.

Felix will be fine, I have no questions about that, but whether he needs Tommy john or something like that will be seen.

Felix Hernandez Gets Paid

Felix Hernandez agreed to a five-year, $135.5 million contract extension Thursday with the Seattle Mariners, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Felix Hernandez is my favorite pitcher and has been forever, I have always dreamed of him being on the Red Sox, but you have to appreciate his loyalty to the team that drafted him. I can't believe that he is actually stoked to stay in Seattle and not testing the waters, because some team would probably pay him more. Seattle doesn't have a ton going for them on the offensive end, although they do have some younger players who potentially could be impactful.

I know they moved the fences in and traded for Michael Morse, but I think it will be a while before this team turns into an offensive juggernaut. But I like that Felix is decided to pull a KG and stick through the bad times to be a legend in Seattle.
