Jered Weaver Has Broken Elbow

"The Angels have placed ace Jered Weaver on the 15-day DL with a nondisplaced radial head fracture of the left (nonpitching) elbow, the team announced. The team says he will miss a minimum of four weeks while CBSSports.com's Scott Miller hears it could be four-to-six weeks (CBS)."

Obviously not good news, but I wonder if this could actually end up being a good thing for the Angels. Weaver had been showing lower velocity this year (down almost 3 MPH from last year), so maybe after his elbow heals and he starts to workout again it will come back.

The Angels haven't started well this year (2-4), and replacing Weaver with either Garrett Richards or Jerome Williams isn't going to help things. Pujols and Hamilton have to get going, neither is batting above .211. They are also going to need guys like CJ Wilson and Tommy Hanson to pitch like aces. A month isn't all that long of a time, but they also can't afford to dig themselves too big of a hole.
