Wade Boggs Wants The Red Sox To Retire His Number
“It would be nice,” Boggs said. “Am I bitter? I thought when I wore a Boston hat in the Hall of Fame I’d be up there. “It’s been eight years now. I used to be bitter. But I think those days are over. Was I bitter? Absolutely.”
Boggs has all the stats. He won five batting titles while with the Red Sox, and played here for 11 years. Yet, there doesn't seem to be a fan that wants him. Why? Well because he decided to go play for the Yankees. If that wasn't bad enough, he tried to retire as a Devil Rays when entering the Hall of fame.
He is now trying to act like it was his choice what hat he wore into the Hall of Fame, and that just isn't the case. He burned that bridge a long time ago. He will be remembered as one of the greatest Red Sox hitters ever, but as for having his number retired I think that's been crushed. You just can't have a ceremony to retire someone's number where at least half the fans would be booing him.
