Red Sox Trade For Mike Carp

The Red Sox acquired Mike Carp from the Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations. To make room for Carp on the roster the Red Sox placed outfielder Ryan Kalish on the 60-day disabled list.

Carp isn't anything special, but the Red Sox have been looking for a left handed first baseman/OF to fill out their bench. From what I am reading the Red Sox are basically just giving up cash, and Carp has shown some flashes of talent in the past (2011 he hit 12 HRs 46 RBIs with .276 BA). Not to mention he is still just 26 years old. The move could force Lyle Overbay off the team, which is fine with me as I think Carp is a better player at this point in his career, and obviously has more upside.
